In a CNBC interview aired earlier today, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu compared Israel's anti-government protests to the pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli protests that have taken place at school colleges in the United States in recent weeks.
Asked if he believed Hamas still had the support of the majority of Israeli citizens more than seven months after the October 7 massacre and the start of the war in Gaza, Netanyahu said: "You can take to the streets and we see great support for his government."
"You don't know because everyone is focused on this protest," he said of the weekly protest in support of recognition and election that drew thousands of people in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and throughout Israel.
Comparing the two, Netanyahu said, "But they have no more impact on the majority of the population than the attack on American schools." “These protesters, these protesters, do they represent the majority of the American people? NO.
"Most people here support victory, want to see victory, want Hamas to be destroyed because they understand that their future is at stake," Netanyahu added.
Due to the mass protests that occur every year, protests calling for early elections and protests supporting hostages have gathered in recent months. The weeks leading up to October 7 were slowly building up.
Families of Hamas officials frequently oppose the attack, and some accuse Netanyahu of blocking the attack for political reasons.
The victims' protests were organized and led by the No Power and No Family Forum, an umbrella formed on behalf of the families of the 252 people abducted by Israel on 7 October.
Anti-Israel school protests in the United States are the result of a wave of protests in which students call on schools to cut ties with Israel and all businesses that support Israel.
Students on campus and others identified by police as outside protesters participated in protests ranging from Columbia University to UCLA in New York City.
Netanyahu had previously compared the protests against Israel in the USA to "what happened in German universities in the 1930s" under Nazi rule.
