In a fresh controversy, the mother of a Kolkata doctor has refused to comply with Mamata Banerjee's call to resume Durga Puja

In a fresh controversy, the mother of a Kolkata doctor has refused to comply with Mamata Banerjee's call to resume Durga Puja celebrations amidst protests following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Despite ongoing demonstrations, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has encouraged the public to shift focus towards the upcoming Durga Puja festivities. During an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat ‘Nabanna,’ Banerjee, who also heads the Home Department, disclosed that Kolkata Police Commissioner, Vineet Goyal, had offered his resignation multiple times in the previous week but was convinced to stay on due to the significance of the Durga Puja festival. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining composure and returning to regular daily activities in light of ongoing protests in the state. He highlighted the disturbance caused to the sleep of elderly individuals by noise from nightly demonstrations on the streets. "We have not complied with the regulations of the state pollution control board."

"I urge you to resume the festivities and allow the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conclude the investigation promptly," she stated. The family of the victim criticizes Mamata for her comments, stating, "What about our festivities when we have lost our daughter? Let her return our daughter." Would she have expressed the same sentiment if this had occurred within her own family?

"We once observed Durga Puja with our daughter, but we have decided to forego celebrating Durga Puja and any other festivals for the foreseeable future." The family of the doctor expressed their disapproval of her remarks. Responding to Mamata's comments, the mother of the Kolkata doctor stated, "It appears lacking in compassion to me as I am the mother of a daughter." I have experienced the loss of a child, which has led me to feel detached from humanity. "If individuals from various regions across the country desire to attend the Durga Puja festival, they are welcome to do so," she stated. "The Durga Puja festivities were also observed in my household." My daughter performed this task in a home setting. However, our lives are now consumed by darkness. She inquired about how to instruct individuals to observe the festival at this juncture.
