Calcutta doctor's rape and murder: accused 'woman' was married 4 times and watched 'disturbing and violent' porn

Violence and murder of a doctor in Kolkata: Neighbors of Sanjoy Roy said that his first wife was from Behala, while his second wife was from Park Circus. The Kolkata Police on Monday said that the man arrested for raping and killing a doctor in a government hospital was addicted to pornography and that his mobile phone contained several such videos. The accused, identified as Sanjoy Roy, was fond of watching "disturbing and violent" pornography, which was "unnatural", a police official said. Sanjoy Roy, 33, who joined the police as a citizen volunteer in 2019, had been married four times and was a womanizer, the officer told PTI.

"The pornographic content on his phone was quite disturbing and violent. We wonder about his state of mind because watching such things is not natural,” the official added.

Sanjoy Roy had a history of abuse

He physically abused his wives, the official added.

Roy's neighbors said his first wife was from Behala, while his second wife was from Park Circus. He married a third time to a girl from Barrackpore. But it didn't last long. “Then he married a girl from Alipore district,” said a neighbor. The police officer told the agency that neighbors complained about the sounds of fighting coming from the defendant's house.

"His fourth wife, who worked at a petrol pump in Alipore, had also filed a complaint of domestic violence, which continued until legal separation was granted," the police officer added.

The accused's mother says her son is innocent

Sanjoy Roy is a trained boxer. He was taken to RG Kar Medical College and hospital police station where the incident took place. The man's mother, Malati Roy, said her son was framed and was innocent.

"I don't know anything, but my son is innocent. I think he was framed," he said.

She said that she studied in a school in Bhabanipur and was also part of the NCC.
