Hezbollah says it launched a drone strike in northern Israel
Iran-backed Hezbollah said it had targeted a military base in northern Israel in response to Israeli "attacks and assassinations" in several villages in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah said it launched a drone strike early Monday in northern Israel that the Israeli military said wounded two Israeli soldiers. The violence comes amid fears of an all-out regional war following the killings last week of a former Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and the political head of Hamas in Iran.
Iran-backed Hezbollah said it had targeted a military base in northern Israel in response to Israeli "attacks and assassinations" in several villages in southern Lebanon. The attack does not appear to be the most intense response expected by Iran and its allied militias. Israel and Hezbollah have traded attacks almost daily over the past ten months during the Gaza war. But last week's assassinations of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukur in Beirut have heightened regional tensions.
The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened Israel on Monday for killing Haniyeh, warning that Israel is "digging its own grave" with its actions against Hamas.
Israel's defense minister said the army was ready for a "quick transition to the offensive".
